Frontpage™ Extensions

Frontpage™ Extensions allow you to publish your web site using Microsoft Frontpage™. These extensions can occasionally become corrupted, so you can uninstall and then reinstall Frontpage™ Extensions whenever required. They do not come pre-installed in your account. If you choose to use them, you must install them.

NOTE TO FRONTPAGE USERS: Most of the options in your Control Panel will NOT work with FrontPage Extensions installed. It's a known fact throughout the industry that Microsoft has established itself as a "world unto itself" and therefore the majority of their software is incompatible with the rest of the  world. We provide FP Extensions as a courtesy to those that know how to use it and prefer it over the more common methods of designing web sites. If you choose to utilize FrontPage, we have provided some brief information that will assist you below.

To (re)install Frontpage™ Extensions:

  1. Click on the Frontpage™ Extensions link in the Site Management area.

  2. Click on the    button.

If you are having problems publishing your site using Frontpage™, the first test is to uninstall and then reinstall your Frontpage™ Extensions. Using Microsoft FrontPage 2000

This tutorial will guide you step-by-step through configuring Microsoft FrontPage to exchange files between your computer and your web site. In order to follow along with us, you'll need to have Microsoft FrontPage installed on your computer, and you'll need to be connected to the internet via your Internet Service Provider.

Create a Simple Page
Before you can publish an html file to your web site with FrontPage, you must either have a page already created, or create a page. To create a page with FrontPage, follow these simple steps

1. With FrontPage open, choose File --> New.

2. Type in "This is a simple test"

3. From the menu bar, choose File --> Save As.

4. Name the html file. (If this file is to be your homepage, be sure to name it index.html). Once you have the file saved to your hard drive, you are ready to publish the file.

 Publish Your Web Page.
1. From the menu bar, choose File --> Publish Web .You'll get a dialog box like this:

2. Click on the Options button

You will see a dialog box like this:

3. In the box "Specify the location to publish your web to:" enter the full URL for your site. If your domain hasn't propagated yet, you can use http://yourIP, replacing yourIP with the IP that you were sent in your welcome setup email.

4. If this is the first time you are publishing your site, select Publish all pages...

5. Select Include subwebs.

You should now have a dialog box that looks like this:

Obviously, you will have put your real domain name instead of 'mydomain.com'

6. Click the Publish button.

You should now see a dialog box like this one:

7. Enter your username and password that were sent to you in your setup email.

If you have entered all the details correctly, FrontPage 2000 will then publish your site. You will see a dialog box like this one when it has finished:

8. Click Done.

TIPS FOR PUBLISHING WITH FRONTPAGE PROGRAMS

Tip 1:
Build and save your web on your local computer.

Tip 2:
Some features of the FrontPage program may not work on our servers. For
example, forms created and used with FrontPage cannot be called securely
using a secure cert on our servers, the way forms built with perl can be, like
FormMail .

Tip 3:
Some features of the FrontPage programs may not be available if you are
using a program version older than the extensions installed on the server.

Tip 4:
When publishing, use one of the following url formats:

http://yourip (publishing using ip)
http://domainname.ext (publishing using domain name)

Tip 5:
If you try to use a path to publish such as:

http://domainname.ext/Frontpage/myplace

The program will be “confused” and this can cause many errors on your web,
possibly even disabling the site.

Change the directory structure within the program itself and then let the
program “place the directories” when you publish.

Tip 6:
Saving the web site on your local computer is a good idea because if the
extensions have to be removed and reinstalled the information for borders,
themes, and various other FrontPage specific files will be lost from the
server. If those files are saved using your FrontPage program on your
computer then it is a simple matter to republish if the extensions are
reinstalled. In other words, don't just make changes directly to the pages
on your website by connecting to the server, make the changes on your
computer and then publish them to your hosting account.
